Thin liquid films in a funnel

We explore flow of a completely wetting fluid in funnel, with particular focus on contact line instabilities at the front. While funnel may be related to number other configurations as limiting cases, understanding its stability is complicated due presence additional azimuthal curvature, well convergent effects imposed by geometry. Convergent nature leads thickening film, therefore influencing properties. In this work, we analyze these properties combining physical experiments, asymptotic modeling, self-similar type analysis and numerical simulations. show that appropriate long-wave based model supported input from simulations linear origination down an incline plane provides basic insight allowing understand development instability emerging lengthscales.
